Help us protect the forest- Kumawu District Manager to communities

The  Kumawu District Manager of the Forest Services Division under the Forestry Commission of Ghana has appealed to citizens and stakeholders in forest fringe communities to help FSD staff to effectively manage and protect the forest cover in their various communities. 

 

Mr Alfred Yabepone made the appeal during engagement with the media last Friday.
The manager reiterated that management of the country’s forest resources has been entrusted to the Forestry Commission and its staff.
He however advotated for effective collaboration and partnership with stakeholders especially forest fringe communities in the various forest districts across the country.
He observed that managing the Kumawu forest district has been quite successful over the past two years especially with respect to the Green Ghana aforestation program.
Mr Yabepone attributed the gains made to effective stakeholder involvement and stronger private public partnerships.
The manager on this note commended stakeholders in the forest district particularly traditional authorities and leadership of the eight MMDAs within the Kumawu forest district for their responsiveness and collaborative spirits.
Mr Yabepone indicated that the district can maintain and further improve opun its tree cover and the green vegetation if the collaboration and partnerships is sustained.
Ms Elizabeth Gabienu, assistant District Manager (ADM),  disclosed that the district exceeded its 2024 green Ghana target.
She disclosed that management set a target to plant 240,00 seedlings
According to the assistant manager, management varified 257,939 seedlings as planted by the end of the planting season.
 Ms Elizabeth Gabienu said the figure include 144,430 seedlings in 130 hectares degraded reserves and 113, 504 seedlings in off reserves across the forest district.
