I will complete all abandoned roads to curb perennial floods – Dahamani

Hon Alhassan Dahamani

The 2020 parliamentary candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party and a former legislator for the Tamale North Constituency, Hon Alhassan Dahamani has assured the people that he will complete all abandoned road constructions to prevent the annual constant flooding in the constituency.

He observed that there is no care and will by the current MP, Hon Alhassan Suhiyini to develop the constituency. Mr. Dahamani believes constructing the road network and drainages will help solve the persistent floods.

He disclosed that all major towns within the constituency have its share of the bad roads. He noted: “In fact, it’s really bad, there is nowhere you will go in Tamale North that you will find good roads; we started most of them and it has come to standstill and therefore, there is no place you will pass on any of them and fill comfortable, there are some of the roads they call abortion roads because it’s been causing abortion to women who pass on those roads.”

The former Tamale North legislator made these remarks to journalists in Tamale after visiting flood victims in Kalpohin, Ward K, Nyanshegu, Fuo and Gumani communities in the constituency on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 to assess the level of damage caused by the Tuesday downpour in the northern region.

Several homes were flooded on Tuesday dawn after a heavy thunderstorm in the Tamale metropolis and some parts of the region. Some of the inhabitants revealed that their clothes and other items were soaked in water, causing damage to their electrical appliances.

The bridge between Fuo and SSNIT flats also submerged, preventing school children and teachers from crossing to either of the two communities. Vehicular movement was also restricted because poor visibility on the road.

Some angry residents of Kalpohin

Some angry residents who claim to be sympathizers of the opposition National Democratic Congress in Kalpohin threatened to vote the NDC MP out of parliament in the 2020 general elections.

According to them, Mr. Suhiyini has woefully failed to fulfill his campaign promise, adding that: “He used sweet words to deceive the Chief and elders of Kalpohin that he was connecting the community to the national grid, not knowing Hon Dahamani was doing it, the Chief gave him his blessings and after he became MP, he abandoned the work, see the poles all over the area.”
