Obuasi Sec Tech emerges winners of Energy Commission Senior High School Renewable challenge
The Obuasi Senior High Technical School has humbled Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School by truncating their efforts of emerging winners for the for forth consecutive time in the fifth edition of the Energy Commission Senior High School Renewable challenge.
The project’s main objective and focus is to apply renewable energy technology in solving land degradation and water pollution issues confronted with as a nation.
The fifth Ashanti Regional edition which saw ten participating schools was to enable students come out with innovative ideas that can be uses to mitigate the rapid degradation of the environment particularly pollution of water bodies and rivers.
Out of the over 140 second cycle schools in the Ashanti Region, ten had quality to the regional level including Armed Forces, Obuasi Senior High Technical,Wesley Girl’s, Nyinahin SHS, Yaa Asantewaa Girls, Kumasi High and Opoku Ware Senior High School.
After a well articulated and innovative presentation coupled with problem solving equipments exhibited by all contesting schools, Obuasi Senior High Technical School lifted the trophy as winners of the challenge and would therefore represent the region at the national level.
The winning team promise to take up a project of easier and cheaper treatments of water.
Later in an interview, the senior manager in charge of renewable energy regulation at the Energy Commission and project manager Mr Julius Nkansah Nyarko was elated by performance of the various schools.
He said a dehydrator which was brought by one of the schools some two years back was being worked on and that it is at the final stage of testing.
This Mr Nyarko said would be introduced to farmers to improve upon their food crop preservation.
Meanwhile The Armed Forces Senior High School came third with a slight margin behind Yaa Asantewaa
