Operation Vanguard swoops in on two Chinese illegal miners, rejects Bosome-Freho DCE’s plea

A combined group of security officers from the Operation Vanguard team based in Obuasi last Sunday dawn conducted a swoop on some illegal miners in Nsuaem, a community within the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region.

In the reported Rambo-styled swoop, a source within the team told this reporter that two Chinese nationals were picked up in the move.

Other local conspirators including indigenous persons who were at the sites that were visited at dawn fled upon seeing the security men by using unconventional routes in their created hideouts.

The team, our source hinted took away about three excavators and burnt to ashes other immovable items at the ‘galamsey’ sites.

BOSOME FREHO DCE’s ALLEGED CONNIVANCE:

Our source revealed that moments when the team was driving off the site the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bosome Freho, Mr Yaw Danso accompanied by some persons approached the team to interact.

Strangely, our source said the DCE suddenly began pleading for the release of the Chinese, adding they are known chaps in the community.

DENIAL:

But speaking with an intemperate tone and an unbridled anger to this reporter when he was called on the issue, Mr Danso sounded evasive about the swoop in his area.

He also denied pleading for the Chinese and rudely suggested that this reporter go back to get his facts right.

Not even a polite insistence by the reporter to get him to answer yes or no could get the fuming DCE to speak again until he angrily cut the call with some threatening.

MORE CASES:

Increasingly, there are a lot of cases coming up where some DCEs in Ashanti are reported to be either engaged in illegal mining or aiding some Chinese nationals as well as some locals to do same.

Last month, Mr William Darko, DCE for Atwima Mponua was reported to have been engaging in illegal mining at Pakyi, a community in the district.

Even though he denied same in an interview, the latest case at Bosome Freho and others in Atwima Nwabiagya, Manso Nkwanta and Manso Adubia calls for concern.

This mouthpiece will furnish readers with series of cases of illegal mining happening in some parts of the Ashanti Region where the president’s representatives (DCEs) are unfortunately involved.
