Government urged to allocate funds for operations of DRIP machines
District Road Improvements Program (DRIP) was an initiative of the est while Akufo Addo administration to help improve road conditions in the various districts in order to make commuting more easy and safer especially on deplorable roads .
The program which was applauded by majority of the people especially the rural folks has been without a secured source of funding for its smooth and effective implementation.
Due to this challenge, some of these machines are becoming a white elephant in districts without the financial muscle to operate them .
Some of the Assemblies have lamented the high coat of operating the machines and that it is fast depleting their coffers taking note of the fact that the district assemblies common fund are tied to specified project and programs that the money must be used for and this does not include DRIP.
The Assemblies are therefore making a passionate Appeal to the Authorities concerned to allocate a percentage of funds for feeder roads and urban roads to the them for the operation of the these DRIP machines.
The latest who waded into the call was the Municipal Chief Executive for Tano South Hon Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong.
The MCE was speaking to Journalists in an interview at Bechem in the Ahafo region where he also stressed the need to have a proper and a sustainable funding for the DRIP equipment since a chunk of the Assemblies revenue are channel into operations of the equipment; a situation he described as unsustainable.
Hon Emmanuel Frimpong added that for roads in the various districts to remained motorable ,there is the need for a dedicated funding for the DRIP equipment for its effective implementation.
The Tano South MCE however mentioned some successes chalked under his leadership ranging from health , sanitation, education, commerce among others in the municipality while commending the MP for the area Hon Charles Asiedu as a strong Pilar as far as development of the area is concerned.
He called on all well meaning people to forge with them in unity for the accelerated growth of the municipality.
