. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah Attends Major Events in Cape Coast, Mobilizes Youth for Victory 2024
The picturesque city of Cape Coast buzzed with excitement and enthusiasm as thousands of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters and sympathizers, led by prominent Party figures, participated in two major events over the weekend. Hon. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, together with other leading figures in the NDC were at the forefront of these activities, inspiring and mobilizing the youth for the upcoming 2024 elections.
The day began with the Cape Coast edition of the Get Fit & Ready Mahama Walk, which saw a massive turnout of Party faithfuls. Members of Parliament for Cape Coast South and Cape Coast North, Hon. Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan and Hon. Samuel Kwamena Mintah, were among the notable participants. They were joined by Hon. Nii Lamptey Vanderpuye, MP for Odododiodio Constituency, Kofi Atta Mills, son of the late President Atta Mills, National Youth Organizer, Joseph Yamin, Deputy General Secretary, Mustapha Gbande, Ruth Dela Seddoh, Deputy National Youth Organizer along with the Regional, Constituency, and Branch Executives. The various regional wings of the party were also present in full force.
Amidst the spirited march through the streets of Cape Coast, accompanied by brass band music, vuvuzelar and huge sound systems, the camaraderie and excitement were palpable. Residents lined the streets, cheering and waving from windows and balconies, while many joined in, chanting “yerisisem,” meaning “we are changing.” The walk was not only a display of physical fitness but also a demonstration of unity and readiness for the upcoming elections.
Following the invigorating walk, the team proceeded to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) for a Youth Empowerment program organized by the NDC’s Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN), UCC Branch. Hon. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah delivered an inspiring Keynote Speech on the theme “Empowering Youth; Unlocking Potentials for a Better Ghana.”
Quoting Thomas Edison, he emphasized, “Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.” He further elaborated on the principles from his book, The 7 Steps to Fulfilling Your Purpose and Mission in Life, stressing the importance of hard work, resilience, and perseverance. He urged the youth to balance their academic pursuits with active political engagement, drawing on his own experiences as a student politician.
“Believing in one’s purpose, discovering and developing talents, paying the price for success, leveraging imagination and positive proclamation, turning adversities into opportunities, seeking mentors, and having faith in God – these are not just theoretical principles, but the tested and proven foundations of my success,” Hon. Elvis told the captivated audience.
From a political standpoint, Hon. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah addressed the audience’s concerns about the NPP’s claims of having numerous strategies to win elections. He emphasized that these claims are merely propagandist tactics meant to instill fear. “The NPP does not possess any extraordinary powers, and we must not entertain the notion that they are unbeatable,” he asserted. Hon. Elvis reminded the audience that all current projections indicate that the NDC is on the path to victory in the 2024 elections. “NO MAN, NO WOMAN, NO DEVIL can stop the victory beckoning at us,” he stressed.
He highlighted that the only threats to their success would be imprudence and complacency. Instead of becoming complacent, he urged everyone to work tirelessly until President Mahama is declared President-elect after December 7th. “We have defeated them before, as recently as 2008 and 2012, and we will defeat them again,” he concluded confidently.
Addressing another pressing concern among NDC supporters, Hon. Elvis tackled the issue of protecting and collating election results. He debunked the notion that the NDC could not collate the 2020 results. Drawing from his experience as the immediate past Director of Elections, he recalled that despite numerous challenges, the NDC was able to increase their votes by over a million, significantly closing the gap from the 2016 elections.
“Despite the shenanigans and the killing of innocent people, our performance after just four years in opposition was substantial,” he noted. Hon. Elvis reassured the audience that for the 2024 elections, the NDC is implementing even more robust systems and advanced training and technical preparations. “You can be assured that your ballots will be protected,” he affirmed.
Other notable speakers included Hon. Isaac Adongo, MP for Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Deputy National Communication Officer Malik Basintale, Kofi Attah Mills, Hon. Joseph Yamin and Ruth Seddoh. Each speaker contributed to the empowering atmosphere, reinforcing the importance of Youth involvement in the Democratic process.
In a gesture of support for the educational advancement of the Youth, Hon. Elvis donated 100 copies of his Book to the attendees. The event concluded with a Media interaction, where Hon. Elvis reiterated the NDC’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of all Ghanaians under the Visionary leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama.
As the 2024 elections approach, the energy and dedication displayed at these events in Cape Coast are a testament to the NDC’s readiness to engage and empower the Youth for a Better Ghana.
