In line with President John Dramani Mahama ‘s vision for green revolution which is aimed at reclaiming degraded lands and planting more trees, the Juaso Forest District in the Ashanti region has observed the nation wide exercise by making the move to plant about 170,000 hectares of trees in four of its reserves.
The project which is Christened tree for life was launched in April this year by the president of the Republic with emphasis on the need to rejuvenate and reclaim the nation’s eco-system especially the degraded areas.
At compartment four of the south Formanso near pra River in te Asante Akim South Municipality, the Juaso Forest District Managress Madam Priscilla Asomani initiated the move for a model plantation of some indigenous species such as Mahogany, framo,wawa,and emirey.
Madam Asomani who was actively involved in the tree planting exercise could not hide her joy for the massive turn out and the enthusiasm with which the people embraced the project .
She in that sense urged the people to cultivate the culture of planting and nurturing trees at will as part of effort to protect the eco-system.
She recounted the survival rate of last year’s plantation which she said stood at over 70percent :an achievement she described as successful.
Some other well wishers who were present to get involve in the tree for life project include traditional authorities, school children farmers and staff of the the forest District.
The nation is expected to plant in excess of 30 million trees within the next couple of weeks of which Juaso Forest District is of no exception.
