Publishers Association apologizes to Ghanaians over derogatory publication of one of its members

iThe Ghana National Association of Authors and publishers has rendered an unqualified apology Christians and the entire Ghanaian public over derogatory publication by one of its members.

The publishing association in attempt to protect its public image has calling on Ghanaians for forgiveness since most of its members are also members of the christian community in the country.

The publishers association pointed out that errors and professional mistakes are not peculiar to their profession but a situation all other professions do encounter.

The apology came on the heels of a publication by Excellency Publications, a member of the publishers association which many Ghanaians especially Christians see as denigrating, maligning and ridiculing early European Christian Missionaries in Ghana.

The National President of the association, Mr. John Akwesi Amponsah at a press conference in Kumasi said the publishers and Authors association accepts all criticisms emanating from where the publisher erred in good faith and render an unqualified apology to the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NACA)and stakeholders who might find the statement misleading for their wards.

Mr amponsah noted that the content which has had negative effect on Christianity in the country was the personal view of the author and that he could have remained faithful to the syllabus considering the impact of the Christian Missionaries in Ghana.

He observed that the content and style of the publisher’s expression was above the targeted learner with particular reference to linguistic language one and two.

He maintained that writers must always consider the style, vocabularies, lexis among other literary structures in line with international best practices.

He disclosed that the association has committed to setting up an internal committee for the assessment of members works in order to ensure adherence to international best practices.

Mr. John Akwesi Amponsah, however indicated that the committee is not intended to undermine the good works of the Education Ministry and NACA.
