Refrain from prosperity centred sermons- Presby Moderator

The Acting Ashanti Presbytery Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP)Church, Ghana Rev Senanu Asieni has called on Men of God to depart from preaching sermons that seem pleasing to their congregants.

He observed that sermons and teachings of today are becoming stale, unuplifting, not rebuking as well as uninstructive.

According to him, this is because some men of God are either lazy or are saddled with other engagements and so do not have time to seek the face of God for his direction as they prepare their sermon.

Rev Senanu was speaking to the media in an interview at the 13th synod of the Ashanti Presbytery of the EP Church at Ayigya in Kumasi where all the seven districts of the Presbytery were represented to take a retrospective look at the church and the way forward.

The Moderator called for God’s guidance for the church at all levels if there should be a positive transformation in the church.

Speaking on the theme: Revive us again oh Lord, heal and restore us,” the guest speaker for the occasion Pastor Douglas Asumani stated that revival of the church starts with individual members of the Christian faith.

He pointed out that evangelism which is supposed to be a core mandate of the church has been thrown to the periphery resulting in the dwindling numerical strength of the church even though the nation’s population keeps increasing.

Mr. Asumani noticed that church groups are fast becoming welfare associations or entertainment groups with virtually nothing by way of spiritual renewal of members.

He therefore admonished Christian not to only focus on social events but rather avail themselves for spiritual renewal for the revival and restoration of the church.

The church in appreciation presented awards to some distinguished personalities who have contributed immensely towards the development of the church.
